Sunshine is a children’s book about the relationship between a little girl and her new pony. The child struggles to get the pony to turn instead of always going straight, while she is learning to distinguish left from right.
This well-illustrated book teaches children about the responsibility of caring for an animal, how to deal with challenges associated with animals, and how to learn left from right. While I think the author created a book that succeeded in relaying certain messages, I wonder how many children will be wary of horses after reading about some of the fearful experiences of little Morrene. While this is surely the reality, I would have expected a gentler and more positive approach.
Sublime Line: “A well-illustrated book, told from a child’s perspective, about the responsibilities, joys, and challenges of having a pony.”
