Song of the Redwing takes a lyrical, picturesque twenty-four-hour journey through the marshland, with a red-winged blackbird as a guide, introducing children to the vividness of nature and the creatures that live in this lush habitat.
This is a relatively long rhyming book intended for younger children, and there is a section at the end that includes more specific information about some of the living beings that are mentioned in the rhymes. The illustrations are stunning and, along with the sing-song quality of the verse, this book would capture the attention of very young children. Older children would appreciate learning about the myriad creatures that inhabit the wetlands. Both the verse and the illustrations bring life, personality, and atmosphere to the setting. This would be a great book to use as an educational tool for younger students to teach them about nature, the environment, and the sciences. And, because of the lovely watercolors, it makes a great coffee table book and conversation piece for adults.
Sublime Line: “With breathtaking illustrations, this children’s book about nature and the marshlands will enthrall people of many ages with its rhyming verse and important message.”
