Two sisters, Renee and Lou, along with a team of other photojournalists, set out on an assignment to capture the beauty and history of Romanian castles. Faced with the opportunity to add another castle to the magazine spread, one that was abandoned and greatly feared by the locals, the group ventures into the depths of a Romanian forest to explore the mysteries of the ancient edifice. They face much more than they expected when they are swept into a world of magic and devastating supernatural powers that leave a trail of murder and evil.
The Revenant, written by a mother and daughter duo, is a fast-paced supernatural action adventure. Despite the murder and bloodlust that keeps the reader’s heart pounding, the novel sits on a solid base of ‘love will get us through this’, primarily the love between sisters. The character development is very well done, immersing us in the emotions of each main character, even into the darkest of psyches. As I was reading this novel, I was drawn to how perfect it would be on a big screen. The nail-biting action and suspense play out excellently to lovers of horror and the occult, with just the right amount of slower pacing to give us insight into the lives and backgrounds of each character.
Sublime Line: “The Revenant is a heart-pounding, cinematic explosion of action, suspense, and bloodlust, wrapped up in the dark cloak of the occult.”
