As the title implies, Hospital! is a humorous tale of a very unlikeable doctor in a hospital (the name is too long and complicated to repeat) in Anytown, USA. Because of his terrible behavior, he is suspended for a month, sent to see a sideshow hypnotist, and comes back unrecognizable, at least in character. He tries to mend his ways as he confuses his colleagues and risks sending his personal censor to the poor house.
Dr. Jones makes use of his medical experience to create this farcical and tongue-in-cheek novel. Although not a deep novel by any standards, the author does get a point or two across. His primary focus is to keep it chock full of humor and silliness. Being a short read, the characters and settings are not fully developed, but it gives them a shallowness that often suits the theme of the novel. This is definitely an original, as the author takes slapstick comedy and applies it to the page. A quick, engaging read if you’re looking for something light and funny.
Sublime Line: “An original take on medical humor and satire in this light, funny read.”
