King Alfred is called upon to handle a few diplomatic challenges in The Weight of the Crown, the sixth installment in the Second Son Chronicles. In the author’s fictional medieval setting, he needs to find a proper match for his daughter, navigate a delicate line to simultaneously prevent a war and unseat a dangerous king while protecting a young heir, and share with his son the wisdom, intelligence, and creativity needed to lead a kingdom.
As always, Ms. Taylor has created an intriguing world within the royal orbit of King Alfred and his family. The much-loved characters developed over the course of the series have lost none of their shine as we watch Alfred’s struggles and triumphs through his eyes. Once again, I was able to immerse myself into the setting and action with ease. Both the author’s impeccable writing skill and outstanding research make you feel a part of the story. I suspect (and I hope) another novel will be forthcoming to allow us to follow Alfred and the next generation in their adventures.
Sublime Line: “The Weight of the Crown takes us on another well-written and captivating adventure with King Alfred and his family.”
