Set in Florida’s Citrus Belt, this novel explores the possible, the likely, and the almost impossible, which includes surviving a freefall from an airplane and winning the battle with a powerful hurricane. A group of unlikely allies from vastly different ways of life find each other in this story of citrus growers, cattlemen, and drug-runners. The plot twists and turns amid attempted murder, betrayal, suspicion, and even romance.
This novel begins with an almost literal bang, and the action ebbs and flows at a nice pace throughout. The author takes the time to educate the reader about citrus growing, which is blended into the narrative with ease. A diverse and interesting group of characters drive the story, and we are deftly led astray by many of them. At times, the direction of the plot is difficult to follow, either because of confusing interaction between the characters or because of the insertion of new characters with little background to give them depth. However, the story held my interest, and the ending was unexpected and entertaining.
Sublime Line: “Quirky and interesting characters give the reader an action-packed and entertaining look at Florida’s drug-smuggling trade.”
