Silver Lady is a near-future novel that blends elements of mystery and the surreal. Set in 2033, society is crumbling and Cassie, an older woman, is hired to deliver a houseboat to another location two thousand miles away. She gathers an eclectic group of strangers to accompany her on her bizarre journey that takes them on a month-long adventure.
Ms. Sage crafts a world that is both familiar and utterly strange. With little experience as a captain, Cassie, along with her passengers, navigate through peculiar towns and endure an abundance of mysterious occurrences. The disappearance of one of the passengers adds a thin layer of intrigue, forcing the remaining crew members to question each other and the nature of their reality. Most of the story is told from Cassie’s point of view as she navigates treacherous waters, literally and figuratively. While the characters are well-developed and believable, the plot seems to be a receptacle for a lot of fantastical ideas with no real resolution to many of the mysteries. This novel would appeal to readers of post-apocalyptic fiction or those who are seeking a unique approach to adventure.
Sublime Line: “A thought-provoking exploration of the human condition in the face of societal collapse.”
